Become a Volunteer
Becoming a volunteer for Family Services, Inc.,
provides much needed services to others, helps keep our costs down,
and is self-rewarding. We hold numerous training sessions throughout
the year to accommodate your schedule. For more information about
any of the volunteer opportunities listed below, feel free to request

Routine Volunteer Opportunities
The following volunteer jobs require a
routine, or regular commitment:
CONTACT Hopelines
Training: 10-40 hours (depends on assignment)
Minimum Time Commitment: Due to the extensive
training requirement, we ask that volunteers commit to at least
1 year (or 2 semesters)
CONTACT HELPline
Provide confidential phone support to callers in distress through
supportive listening.
Sexual Assualt & Domestic Violence
Crisis Lines
Provides face-to-face and/or phone support to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Reassurance
Make scheduled calls to older adults in need of reassurance and support.
Safety Checks
Contact the partners of men who are in the Time-Out
Abusers' Treatment Program. Assess the partner's safety and changes
that have been made since his/her partner began attending Time-Out.
ourt Advocacy
Provide support, information and referrals to women in court who are victims of domestic violence.
Project/Office Assistance
Help maintain important files and data entry
on client referrals. Assist with a variety of on-going or one-time
projects. Projects may be completed by individuals or groups.
Foreign Language Translaton*
Translate written materials, serve as an "on-call" translator, or teach conversational Spanish to staff.
Publications Development/Distribution*
Help keep supplies of Family Services' publications stocked at assigned locations throughout the Winston-Salem area.
*Does not require a 1 year commitment. Asked to volunteer when needs arise.
